Paul R. Duller


Paul is IM Consultancy Director for the Tribal Group plc. He is a geologist with a PhD in exploration, computing, statistics and data analysis, and has over 30 years oil and gas experience. He is an international records management specialist, a chartered scientist, International Director and Previous past chairman of the UK Information & Records Management Society; Chair of the Data Management Group of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB); Chair of the Geoscience Information Group (GIG) of the Geological Society of London, and author of over 7 public information governance and records management training courses. He has particular experience in project management of large-scale records management projects (both physical and electronic assets) and the development and implementation of records management policies, strategies and retention schedules. He has worked as Information Advisor in the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals in the Sultanate of Oman, and as Information Manager in two major oil companies and three major oil consultancies.

Paul has undertaken a wide range of records management projects both in the UK and internationally (Abu Dhabi, Algeria, Brazil, Belgium, Bolivia, Bahrain, Borneo, Bangladesh, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Malta, Norway, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Tunisia, Thailand, Trinidad, UK and USA). He is he is currently retained by the Geological Survey of Canada, the State of California; and Enbridge Pipelines (Canada) on a part-time basis to provide asset management and recordkeeping advice and assistance.

Over the last 4 years, Paul has worked as an Investigator and Expert Witness for the California Public Utilities Commission in the San Bruno Gas Pipeline Rupture and Fire (the largest natural gas disaster in US history that ultimately led to fines of $1.6B). In addition, Paul has undertaken strategic information management projects for the following clients: AIIM, Addax, Genel Energy, Mubadala Petroleum, Enbridge, Geological Survey of Canada, California Public Utilities Commission and Shell. Paul is production editor of the Information & Records Management Society’s journal, and publishes extensively in the field of information, records and knowledge management.

Paul has extensive research experience in computing and exploration. His research interests include the mineralogy and paragenesis of gold deposits, databases and geoscience data management. He is author/joint author of over thirty papers and articles, yet dislikes analogue devices (such as books!) and set out here to prove the merits of virtual publishing. [NB.
